Position Overview
Our client is seeking a full-time Project Manager to support their Substations group based in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Project Management Office, this role is accountable for the overall delivery of assigned projects. The successful candidate will oversee planning, execution, cost control, scheduling, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication, while coordinating multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager’s core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Project Development & Planning: Prepare and manage comprehensive project plans covering scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk management strategies.
Technical Leadership: Offer technical direction and support to project team members as required throughout the project lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Coordination: Liaise with engineering, drafting, fabrication, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Quality Assurance: Monitor compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Project Controls & Documentation: Track progress and maintain accurate project records, including reports, meeting minutes, technical documentation, and change management items.
Stakeholder Communication: Act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring clear and timely communication.
Issue Resolution: Proactively identify project risks, technical challenges, and execution issues, and implement effective solutions.
Additional Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned to support project and organizational needs.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Structural, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Project Engineer or similar project delivery role.
At least three (3) years of Canadian experience directly supporting transmission, distribution, or substation engineering projects.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with a provincial association.
PMP certification is preferred, or willingness to achieve certification within the first year of employment.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage client and stakeholder expectations.
Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
