DUTIES

The Department of Physical Sciences (Geology) invites applicants for a sessional faculty position.

Start Date: September 8, 2026
End Date: April 28, 2027

Approximate Salary
$2575.50 per credit
Total for 21 credit = $54,085.50 for 8 months

Application Deadline
Review of applications will begin June 1, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.

Courses: The successful candidate will teach the following courses:
• Introductory Geology Labs (4 sections fall, 2 sections winter), (1.5 credits each)
• Geologic Hazards and Forensic Geology (GEOL 2070, 1 section, fall), (3 credits)
• Earth History (GEOL 2050, 1 section, winter), (3 credits) and
• Earth History lab (1 section, winter) (3 credits).
• The position includes an additional 3 credit hours for lab and field coordination.

Duties include creating a positive student-centered learning environment while teaching classroom/field-based labs and lectures, marking evaluating student performance in lab and lecture, maintaining and updating the Moodle learning management system, and working as part of a team in a collegial environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS
• A PhD (or PhD near completion) with the ability and desire to communicate the importance of geoscience to sustainable societies and ecosystems and to the daily lives of general science and non-science students. Laboratory experience in geochemistry and scanning electron microscopy is an asset; candidates with a MSc and substantial equivalent teaching and research experience may be considered,
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness and a passion for developing engaging learning experiences,
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and
• The ability and desire to work collaboratively as a team.

About the Department of Physical Sciences - Geology
We are a multidisciplinary and collegial department of chemists, physicists and geoscientists, dedicated to inspiring the next generation of geoscientists.

• Analytical facilities include two Scanning electron microscopes with BSE, SE, EDS, and CL detectors, an ICP-Mass Spectrometer, standard optical and digital petrographic microscopes, and basic field equipment, reasonable library facilities, and access to some software packages for geochemistry and GIS.
• Teaching facilities include a dedicated classroom and lab that is also home to the Ken Klein Geology Museum, and excellent sample suites for teaching. The university is located in the Quesnel terrane and overlain by Eocene volcanics of the Kamloops Group. Field locations are right outside the door.
• Kamloops is also home to a strong geoscience community that includes two major porphyry-style mines, a government agency, the Kamloops Exploration Group and its annual conference, exploration companies, consulting firms, environmental services, and analytical services.
• The surrounding lakes, mountains, and grassland provide endless opportunities for outdoor recreation.
