The Intern, Mechanical - Field is responsible for collaborating with the Mechanical Field leadership to ensure railcar inspection maintenance and repair is performed safely and efficiently. The incumbent works with different teams such as Mechanical, Transportation, and Reliability to contribute to safety orientation, compliance, enforcement, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The position is involved in leading projects and overseeing project portfolios.
Major Responsibilities
Support Online Failure Investigation and follow-up
Assist in response to dangerous good incidents and leaks in yards
Assist with creation, auditing, and implementation of standard operating procedures
Contribute to ensuring that Performance Monitoring Reporting Compliance (PMRC) targets, expectations, and objectives are met
Analyze car inspection and repair productivity using CN’s data
Perform analysis on locomotive reliability and repair billing initiatives
Assist in identifying, developing, and initiating improvement activities
Support in the creation and implementation of locomotive automated alerts
Assist with development of KPIs on reliability performance
Help in documenting, identifying, and analyzing failure patterns
Launch surveys to conduct root cause analysis requirements
Help with special projects, data analysis and recommendations for improvement, reporting, presentations, and onsite audits of various terminals throughout the region
Requirements
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams Notes, and Word)
Knowledge of reporting software such as Tableau and Smartsheet
Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), Query Designer, ARIBA or equivalent
Knowledge of Service Reliability System (SRS)
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to work outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions
Ability to perform occasional travel (25%) between Canada and the United States (
Education
Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, BCom, Computer Science, or Construction Management
Any experience / education / skills / knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
