Job description

Matchbox Consulting Group is partnering with a specialized water and wastewater infrastructure firm based in Langley, BC looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join their team in a true leadership capacity.

Our client is a tight-knit, technically driven company that punches well above its weight. They deliver complex water and wastewater treatment projects across the Lower Mainland and Western Canada, and they do it without the bureaucracy and layers that slow things down at larger firms. This is not a role where you'll be one of thirty engineers waiting your turn. The person who comes in here will work directly alongside the management team, have real ownership over projects, and have a clear, genuine path toward a director-level seat as the company grows.

If you're a senior engineer who knows WWTP design inside and out and you're tired of being a small piece of a large machine, this is worth a conversation.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

  • A direct line to director-level growth in a company that is actively building out its leadership team.
  • Full project ownership from design through construction and commissioning, not just one slice of the work.
  • Work alongside senior leadership and have your voice heard from day one.
  • Small, high-performing team where your contributions are visible and your expertise is valued.
  • Complex, meaningful infrastructure projects across Western Canada with real technical challenge.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Lead the design and construction of wastewater treatment plants, pump systems, and reservoirs across the Lower Mainland and Western Canada.
  • Oversee multi-discipline project design and review drawings from subconsultants and suppliers for errors and omissions.
  • Prepare P&IDs, process layouts, technical specifications, and detailed construction cost estimates.
  • Manage procurement of equipment and materials on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate design information across discipline leads, project coordinators, and field staff.
  • Write proposals and ensure all RFP requirements are met.
  • Conduct site inspections and prepare as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and commissioning reports.
  • Challenge existing designs and develop innovative, cost-effective alternatives.
  • Manage project documentation including RFIs, change orders, and shop drawings.
  • Mentor technical staff and contribute to a safe, accountable work culture.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 5 or more years of experience designing and constructing water and wastewater treatment plants in Canada, with full-cycle WWTP experience being the priority.
  • 5 or more years of design management experience across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Registered P.Eng with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Hands-on construction experience, either as a prime contractor or in a construction management capacity.
  • Working knowledge across civil, structural, HVAC, electrical, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Sharp eye for detail with a track record of catching errors and improving designs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Someone who wants to lead, not just execute, and is looking for a place to build something long term.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the Langley office.

WHAT IS ON OFFER

  • Compensation: Competitive, disclosed upon application
  • A genuine path to director-level leadership as the company grows
  • Direct involvement in company direction and decision-making
  • Complex, high-profile water infrastructure projects across Western Canada
  • A small team environment where your work matters and your growth is supported
