Cascadia Metals is seeking a Production Planner at our Port Kells branch. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and optimizing daily production, fulfillment, and shipping activities across multiple operational areas, including Cut-to-Length (CTL), Slitting, and Sheet Stock Fulfillment.
This role operates within a centralized planning team and works closely with other planners (CTL, Slitter, Logistics, and Pick & Pack) to ensure all orders flow efficiently from order entry through production to final delivery.
The position serves as a key connector between Sales, Production, Inventory, and Shipping.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Review incoming picking lists and convert them into actionable work orders
- Build and maintain daily and next-day production schedules for CTL and Slitter operations
- Coordinate scheduling decisions with other planners to balance workload and avoid bottlenecks
- Prioritize orders based on customer requirements, material availability, and operational efficiency
- Ensure materials are staged and ready in collaboration with production teams
Work Order Management
- Create detailed work orders with clear instructions, material requirements, and customer notes
- Align priorities with fellow planners to maintain overall operational flow
- Verify order specifications and confirm details with Sales when required
- Track and update work order status through completion
- Ensure all completed jobs are properly recorded and closed in the system
Inventory & Material Coordination
- Validate material availability and proactively identify shortages
- Work closely with Inventory Control and planners to manage shared resources
- Review inventory processing reports and ensure accurate system updates
- Support receiving and tagging of incoming materials when required
Fulfillment & Shipping Alignment
- Align production output with shipping schedules in coordination with the Logistics Planner
- Collaborate with Pick & Pack Planner to ensure proper order sequencing and readiness
- Support load planning, consolidation, and delivery timelines
- Assist in converting picking lists into packing lists and shipment planning
Cross-Functional Communication
- Act as a communication hub between Sales, Production, Logistics, Warehouse, and other planners
- Participate in daily planning and production meetings
- Provide updates on order status, delays, and machine availability
- Continuously collaborate with the planning team to adjust priorities and optimize workflow
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain production reports, planning logs, and daily performance tracking
- Identify inefficiencies across planning functions and recommend improvements
- Ensure accuracy in documentation and system updates
Qualifications
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, or logistics coordination (manufacturing or industrial environment preferred)
- Proven ability to work within a team-based planning environment
- Strong understanding of workflow coordination across production and shipping
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with ERP systems (Steel Plus or similar is an asset)
- Proficiency in Excel or reporting tools is an advantage.
