Job Title: Body Sealing Design Engineer (entry level)
Job Description
This role focuses on the engineering, design, development, timing, and production release of body sealing components and related BIW sealing, welding, and structural subassemblies. The engineer drives quality improvements, weight and cost reduction, and efficiency initiatives while supporting manufacturing plants with emerging issue resolution and communicating technical product status to cross-functional stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage the design, development, and release of BIW sealing, welding, and structural components and subassemblies, including parametric modeling using NX.
- Develop detailed 3D models and engineering documentation to support body sealing component design and integration.
- Collaborate with external suppliers, internal stamping plants, and vehicle plant body shops to ensure manufacturability, cost efficiency, and material performance meet project milestones and vehicle functional objectives.
- Develop and manage engineering documentation and quadris for subassemblies to ensure clear definition of requirements and interfaces.
- Create source package technical documentation and lead technical reviews with suppliers and internal engineering teams.
- Define and track engineering validation plans, including DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA, and coordinate associated physical testing.
- Provide onsite plant launch support to triage issues, perform root cause analysis, and establish corrective actions for assembly concerns, build variation, BSR, fit and finish items, and other launch gating issues.
- Ensure all designs comply with internal standards, vehicle performance targets, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support quality improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance durability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Drive weight reduction and cost reduction initiatives through design optimization, material selection, and efficient manufacturing approaches.
- Communicate project status, risks, and key deliverables to stakeholders in engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality organizations.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align timing, resolve technical issues, and ensure successful production release of components.
- Maintain accurate CAD data and PLM records for all assigned components and subassemblies throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in automotive
- Experience in CAD software
- Experience with parametric modeling for automotive components.
- Familiarity with PLM systems for managing product data and engineering changes.
Assets
- Experience with automotive exterior components such as grilles, fascias, bumpers, and plastic exteriors.
- Background in automotive application design using Siemens NX.
- Exposure to new product development processes in the automotive industry.
- Knowledge of design and development practices for body sealing and BIW structures.
- Experience with knowledge-based engineering (KBE) tools or methodologies.
- Interest in working on advanced research and development projects related to electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Motivation to grow within a global automotive organization and contribute to long-term programs.

This is a Contract position based out of WINDSOR, ON.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $39.00 - $39.00/hr.
