Job description

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Lead RBC’s data engineering transformation as a strategic leader shaping the future of data-driven decision-making! In this Director role, you’ll oversee high-impact initiatives to modernize data infrastructure, with a focus on large-scale ingestion, real-time processing, and cloud-native solutions. This mandate prioritizes building resilient, scalable pipelines to fuel RBC’s analytics and AI capabilities. If you’re passionate about innovation, technical excellence, and organizational change, this is your chance to make a lasting impact at Canada’s leading financial institution.

What will you do?

  • Pipeline Modernization: Design and implement high-volume data ingestion frameworks (batch/streaming) using tools like Apache Kafka, Spark, or Flink.

  • DevOps Integration: Embed CI/CD practices into data engineering workflows, leveraging tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or ArgoCD for automated deployment and testing.

  • Cloud-Native Architecture: Lead migration to scalable cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), optimizing storage (e.g., S3, ADLS) and compute (e.g., Kubernetes, EMR).

  • Developer Enablement: Establish self-service data ingestion patterns, APIs, and SDKs to empower analytics and ML teams.

  • Performance Optimization: Tune ingestion pipelines for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency, using monitoring tools like Prometheus or Datadog.

  • Governance & Security: Implement data validation, encryption, and access controls (e.g., RBAC, IAM) to ensure compliance with financial regulations.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with infrastructure, security, and business teams to align technical solutions with RBC’s strategic goals.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Data Ingestion Expertise: Proven experience with large-scale ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend) and streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis).

  • DevOps & Automation: Hands-on proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Programming & APIs: Strong coding skills in Python/Scala/Java and RESTful API development for data integration.

  • Cloud Data Services: Deep knowledge of cloud-native data solutions (e.g., AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, GCP Dataflow).

  • Leadership & Strategy: Track record of leading cross-functional teams in regulated industries (e.g., financial services).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with real-time analytics (e.g., Apache Druid, ClickHouse) or MLOps tools (MLflow, Kubeflow).

  • Certifications in cloud architecture (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer).

  • Familiarity with data cataloging (e.g., Alation, Collibra) and metadata management.

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable.

  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities.

  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact.

  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team.

  • A world-class training program in financial services.

  • Opportunities to do challenging work.
