Job description4+ years of electrical engineering experience in the building service industry. Either a designated Professional Engineer or have OACETT certification (C.E.T., C.Tech.) Experience in commercial, educational, retail, residential, and / or health care / long term care buildings is an asset. Strong technical knowledge in the design and code requirements for power and distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, life safety systems, generators, and other auxiliary systems such as IT, A / V, and communications Knowledge of relevant Canadian and Ontario codes and standards (OBC, OESC, IES, NFPA, IES, etc.) Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize AutoCAD to prepare electrical design documents Demonstrated ability to manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and other contract administration requirements Working knowledge and experience using Revit is considered an asset Strong interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to think critically and analytically with exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills to effectively resolve construction issues Attention to detail, resourceful and detail-oriented Team and customer service focused
Electrical Designer
Our client, an engineering consulting firm for mechanical and electrical building services in Kitchener-Waterloo, is currently seeking an Electrical Designer to join their team immediately on a permanent full-time basis.
You will be joining a team committed to design integrity and quality attention to detail, and a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency to their approach. The successful candidate will work with a Senior Electrical Engineer on technical design requirements for assigned projects, project management, coordination with other disciplines, client building, management of the electrical team, and contract administration requirements throughout construction. This position will be working out of their head office in Waterloo, Ontario.
Role and Responsibilities :
- Working with both external project teams and internal design teams to develop the electrical designs for a variety of buildings
- Develop the technical design and perform design calculations for various electrical systems from preliminary design phases through to completion and would including coordinating electrical site services for new construction, site photometric plans, electrical distribution design, fire alarm, generator (standby and life safety) designs, emergency and life safety systems, lighting & associated controls, and other electrical requirements to suit client standards and building classifications
- Attending design meetings to represent the electrical discipline
- Selecting relevant equipment
- Management of other junior electrical team members
- Overseeing / completing the drafting and modeling assigned projects
- Coordination of electrical systems with mechanical, architectural, and other disciplines
- Contract administration requirements
