Job description

Our Technology team wakes up every day with one goal in mind - connecting Canadians to the people and things that matter most. Together, we are proud to support 30 million Canadians each month through managing a robust portfolio that champions leading-edge technology. We drive large-scale, complex, and high-visibility technology projects and programs that shape the future of technology in Canada and expand connectivity from coast to coast. If you are interested in being a part of this, consider applying for the following opportunity:

Who we are looking for:

Are you passionate about using data science, AI, and wireless network expertise to solve complex, real-world challenges? As a Principal Data Scientist, you will lead the design and delivery of advanced analytics and AI/ML solutions that improve wireless network planning, performance, automation, reliability, and customer experience. This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who can combine hands-on modelling expertise, deep RAN knowledge, cloud-scale data architecture, and strong cross-functional influence to help shape the future of intelligent wireless networks.

What you will do

  • Lead the development of advanced algorithmic modelling, big data processing, and AI/ML solutions for wireless network planning, performance engineering, capacity forecasting, and optimization.
  • Apply deep learning, reinforcement learning, graph models, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling techniques to solve complex wireless network challenges.
  • Use wireless network, customer experience, and business data to identify actionable insights that improve service reliability, network performance, and investment decisions.
  • Define and implement key metrics that measure network health, capacity, customer experience, business impact, and economic viability.
  • Drive AI/ML strategy, technical roadmaps, and architectural reviews for complex wireless analytics and network transformation initiatives.
  • Design, maintain, and improve predictive tools and near-real-time systems that support network forecasting, automation, planning, and optimization.
  • Identify emerging technologies and extend existing big data, cloud, and AI/ML capabilities to meet future network, business, and customer needs.
  • Promote adoption of tools, platforms, and services developed by the team across cross-functional engineering, technology, and business stakeholders.
  • Work on highly complex and ambiguous problems where analysis requires sound judgment, experimentation, and evaluation of technical, operational, and business trade-offs.
  • Lead one- to three-year technology strategies and roadmaps aligned with wireless network priorities and enterprise transformation goals.
  • Communicate complex technical recommendations clearly through presentations, proposals, and senior stakeholder discussions.
  • Mentor and influence technical peers by sharing expertise, reviewing solution approaches, and encouraging innovative ways to solve business and network challenges.

What you bring

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of wireless technologies, 3GPP standards, RAN architecture.
  • Deep familiarity with Ericsson RAN products and platforms, including Ericsson Radio System, Remote Radio Units, Massive MIMO AIR products, RAN Compute architecture, Ericsson Network Manager, and intelligent automation solutions.
  • Experience in wireless network planning, RAN engineering, network operations, and performance optimization.
  • 7+ years of experience as an application, data, or system architect, including experience establishing big data standards on Azure, AWS, or GCP platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience in predictive modelling, data science, machine learning, algorithmic solution design, predictive tools, and relational databases, preferably in telecommunications or networking.
  • 3+ years of experience with related or complementary open-source platforms and languages, such as Python, R, Java, Unix, Linux, Apache, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#.
  • Experience with relational database technologies, including Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, and Postgres.
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization across relational databases and the Databricks stack.
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery model and contributing to key project milestones, deliverables, budgets, and standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining focus on high-impact outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical recommendations to senior stakeholders and influence decisions across cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with network telemetry, topology data, PM/CM/FM data, CDRs, or other large-scale network datasets.
  • Experience building reusable data products, APIs, dashboards, decision-support tools, or automation capabilities.
  • Exposure to generative AI, LLMs, digital twins, intelligent automation, agentic AI, or advanced forecasting in a network environment.
  • Experience influencing technical strategy or architecture in a large enterprise environment.
