Job description
Job Title: Machine Operator
Job Description

This hands-on Machine Operator role plays a critical part in the production process by operating and rotating between multiple machines that season, pack chips, and pack bags into boxes. You will monitor equipment, perform basic troubleshooting, complete regular documentation, and support packaging tasks to ensure consistent product quality and efficient production.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor three different production machines, including seasoning equipment, chip packing machines, and bag-to-box packing machines.
  • Rotate between all three machines during the shift to support continuous production and maintain workflow.
  • Perform changeovers by lifting and handling rolls of covering material weighing up to 50 pounds approximately two times per shift.
  • Respond promptly to machine alerts, lights, and bells by checking the equipment and identifying potential issues such as low seasoning levels, sealing problems, or misaligned bags of chips.
  • Use the machine interface and screens to identify bottlenecks in the production line and troubleshoot issues in accordance with training and standard operating procedures.
  • Consult written standard operating procedures (SOPs) and error code manuals to diagnose and resolve machine error messages, taking initiative to investigate solutions before escalating for assistance.
  • Escalate issues to the team lead or other support staff when problems cannot be resolved independently, clearly explaining the steps already taken.
  • Complete required production paperwork every hour, accurately documenting chip weight, seasoning levels in each bag, number of bags produced, and other key metrics.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation meets quality and compliance standards.
  • Pack finished bags of chips into boxes as needed to support overall production and shipping requirements.
  • Assist with general production tasks such as palletizing, wrapping, and preparing product for shipping and receiving activities.
  • Support loading and unloading tasks, including lifting boxes and organizing products for shipment or storage when required.
  • Follow all food safety practices and production guidelines to ensure a safe and compliant manufacturing process.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of debris, participating in clean-up tasks and general housekeeping duties.
  • Collaborate with other machine operators and the team lead, communicating effectively to coordinate workflow and address production issues.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and a strong work ethic, consistently arriving on time and prepared for the shift.
  • Work independently on assigned machines while remaining responsive and supportive to team members as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in machine operation or production machine operating, preferably in a manufacturing or general production environment.
  • Ability to operate and monitor multiple types of machines, including seasoning, packing, and packaging equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the confidence to learn how to troubleshoot basic machine issues and follow technical instructions.
  • Comfort with physically demanding tasks, including lifting rolls or boxes weighing up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods.
  • Good written communication skills to accurately complete hourly production paperwork and documentation.
  • Good verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members, leads, and support staff.
  • Experience in general labor, warehouse packing, order picking and packing, packaging, loading and unloading trucks, and shipping and receiving tasks.
  • Ability to perform palletization tasks, including building pallets, wrapping products, and preparing shipments.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure correct weights, seasoning levels, and counts are recorded and maintained.
  • Willingness to take initiative by consulting SOPs and error code guides before requesting assistance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse culture and collaborate with a variety of coworkers.
  • Consistent and dependable attendance, demonstrating reliability and commitment to the role.
  • Willingness to perform a wide range of tasks, including clean-up and general housekeeping, as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a food production or food manufacturing environment is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and procedures is preferred.
  • Forklift experience or certification is an advantage.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production setting with multiple machines running simultaneously.
  • Openness to learning new processes and completing competency-based training to progress through skill levels.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support different areas of the production floor as required.
Why Work Here?

You will join a quickly growing company that offers immediate access to benefits and a clear pathway for career progression into lead and supervisor roles. The organization supports skill development through structured competency levels, allowing motivated employees to advance as quickly as they demonstrate capability. Team members receive practical perks such as a boot allowance upon permanent hire and weekly product benefits, creating a sense of appreciation and connection to the work. The culture emphasizes teamwork, diversity, and a supportive environment where people help one another succeed.

Work Environment

You will work on a first-shift schedule, Monday to Thursday from 4:00 . to 2:00 ., as part of a production team of approximately 12 people. The environment is clean and organized, with three machines running and a higher noise level due to operating equipment. You will work closely with two other machine operators and a team lead, balancing independent machine operation with collaborative support when needed. The facility includes typical production and warehouse areas where palletization, wrapping, loading, and shipping activities occur. The role requires physical stamina for lifting boxes and rolls, standing for long periods, and moving around the production floor. The company uses a structured level system tied to competencies, allowing employees to progress through levels by completing defined skill requirements within the first 90 days when performance supports it. A boot allowance is provided once you move into a permanent role, and you can expect a practical, production-focused dress environment suitable for working around machinery and food products.
