The Controller will oversee accounting operations across several operating companies, lead major accounting system migrations, and act as a trusted financial partner to operational leaders.

Advantages
- Clear Growth Path: Designed as a step-up role with a defined 1–2 year transition into full ownership of the Controller function
- High Visibility & Impact: Direct access to senior leadership with meaningful influence on business decisions and financial strategy
- Systems Modernization: Opportunity to lead end-to-end accounting system migrations and implement modern, integrated financial tools
- Breadth of Exposure: Hands-on experience across multiple operating companies with different business models and complexities

Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Oversight

- Oversee banking relationships, cash management, tax coordination, and corporate insurance policies

Systems Migration & Process Improvement

- Lead the migration from legacy and disparate accounting systems to a more unified, modern platform
- Manage the transition of one operating company from Sage 50 to QuickBooks, including improved costing and departmental reporting
- Drive integration with modern tools and platforms using available APIs and automation
- Establish standardized monthly close processes, checklists, and documentation across all entities

Leadership & Collaboration

- Manage and mentor accounting staff, including an intermediate accountant and payroll specialist
- Partner closely with the Payroll Specialist on payroll system consolidation and ongoing coordination
- Work collaboratively with existing finance team members to ensure accountability and consistency across business units
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to operational leaders, supporting informed decision-making

FP&A and Strategic Support

- Provide financial analysis for operational decisions, including capital expenditures and buy-versus-lease evaluations
- Increase overall financial effectiveness, reporting quality, and financial visibility across the organization

Qualifications

- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in multi-entity or complex operating environments
- Experience with accounting system implementations or migrations (strongly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and business practices
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks (Online preferred); Sage 50 experience is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to build processes, enforce controls, and improve financial discipline

Ideal Candidate Profile:
