Job Category : Faculty - Clinical
Faculty / Division : Temerty Faculty of Medicine
Department : Dept of Medicine
Hospital Affiliation : University Health Network
Campus : St. George (Downtown Toronto)
Description :
The University Health Network (UHN) and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto are seeking to recruit 2-4 Academic Clinicians to be based at Toronto General and Western Hospitals. Increasing patient volumes on the General Internal Medicine Clinical Teaching Units, necessitated the creation of a resident-independent team known at UHN / SHS as the Acute Inpatient Medicine, or AIM Team. This team is under the auspice of the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) & Geriatrics at UHN / SHS. The successful candidates must currently hold or be eligible for a full time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor with a position description of Academic Clinician at the University of Toronto, with a start date of July 1, 2025.
These positions will have a 90% clinical care component, with 10% of time devoted to a combination of scholarly activities (teaching, quality improvement, and administrative service). The combined responsibilities will depend on the successful candidates’ qualifications, experience, and the needs of the specific hospital site.
The main clinical responsibilities of an AIM Academic Clinician includes daytime inpatient MRP work and nocturnist work at both TGH and TWH. As this program is expanding, there is the opportunity for additional service lines including nonMRP consults work, including consultations from the Emergency Department. As this program was, in part, created to provide more comprehensive resident-independent medical coverage to address rising patient volumes, in-house nocturnal clinical work is a requirement for this position (currently 2 shifts / month or 24 nocturnal shifts per year for a 1.0 FTE). Total clinical work is in the range of 24-40 weeks per year as decided by the successful candidates, the Division Head of GIM & Geriatrics, and the AIM team leadership.
The successful candidates must hold MD qualifications, be certified (or be eligible for certification) by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be licensed (or be eligible for licensure) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidates will possess strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills. A strong interest and experience in hospitalist medicine would be an asset. Successful candidates will be appointed to the UHN Division of General Internal Medicine or the Department of Family Community Medicine.
Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates. Compensation will be within the usual income range for an academic hospitalist in the Province of Ontario (estimated range is $300,000-$350,000 per year), achieved through a combination of fee for service and stipends for weekly work and call shifts.
Applications will be accepted until February 11, 2025, or until the positions are filled. Interested individuals should submit their letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for three references to :
