Reporter-Editor, Edmonton, Full-Time

The Prairies bureau of The Canadian Press is looking for an experienced, dedicated and dynamic journalist with keen news judgment.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently and be able to handle a wide range of duties in reporting and editing news across the region.

The successful candidate will be expected to arrive for work armed with original ideas and creative ways to tell those stories to help drive the news agenda.

General Responsibilities :

  • Write, edit and gather content for CP’s various services, including print, audio and video
  • Come up with new and creative ways to tell stories on all platforms
  • Generate original story ideas, projects and exclusives
  • Find and report stories of provincial and national interest
  • Work creatively and concisely under tight deadline pressure
  • Work independently but also pitch in to help the team when needed
  • Edit and improve colleagues’ work
  • Occasional shift work may be required, including evenings and weekends
  • Occasional travel

Skills and Experience Required :

  • Experience working in a real-time, digital newsroom
  • Solid news judgment
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Superior research skills
  • Ability to write and edit copy to the standards in the CP Stylebook
  • Ability to edit and improve colleagues’ work
  • Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure
  • Experience using different news platforms, including broadcast and video
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to organize time and workflow effectively
  • Experience in political reporting is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Le bureau des Prairies de La Presse Canadienne est à la recherche d’un(e) journaliste expérimenté(e), dévoué(e) et dynamique, ayant le sens de la nouvelle.

La personne choisie sera capable de travailler de façon autonome et sera aussi en mesure de remplir diverses fonctions de reportage et de révision sur l’actualité à travers la région.

Elle se présentera au travail avec des idées originales de reportage et des façons créatives de les réaliser afin de contribuer à activer la couverture des nouvelles.

Responsabilités générales :

  • Rédiger, réviser et rassembler du contenu multimédia pour les divers services de la PC (écrit, audio, et vidéo)
  • Proposer de nouvelles façons créatives de réaliser des reportages sur toutes les plateformes
  • Générer des idées d'articles originaux, des projets et des exclusivités
  • Dénicher et publier des nouvelles d’intérêt provincial et national
  • Travailler de manière créative et concise sous la pression de délais serrés
  • Travailler de façon autonome, mais donner un coup de main à l’équipe si nécessaire
  • Réviser et améliorer le travail de collègues
  • Quarts de travail occasionnels, y compris les soirs et week-ends
  • Déplacements occasionnels

Compétences et expérience nécessaires :

  • Expérience de travail d’information en temps réel dans une salle de rédaction numérique
  • Solide jugement journalistique
  • Excellentes aptitudes de rédaction
  • Aptitudes supérieures de recherche
  • Habileté à rédiger et réviser la copie conformément aux normes du CP Stylebook
  • Habileté à réviser et améliorer le travail de collègues
  • Habileté à travailler sous la pression extrême de délais serrés
  • Expérience de l’utilisation de différentes plateformes d’information, dont la radio et la video
  • Souci du détail et habileté à organiser son temps et son travail de façon efficace
  • L’expérience du reportage politique est un atout
  • Le bilinguisme est un atout
