As a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the President & CEO, the AVP, Human Resources plays a key role in achieving Choice Properties' strategic objectives.

The AVP serves as a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team, working across the organization in developing people programs focused on building talent and capability, fostering an open and inclusive culture and enabling business growth.

This role provides leadership, strategic direction and vision to the HR team, who is responsible for the day-to-day execution of HR Business Partnering, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Culture, Leadership Development, Total Rewards and Colleague Engagement.

What You Will Do :

  • Be a key strategic member of the Senior Leadership Team, developing progressive HR strategies and policies - including setting the long-term people strategy in collaboration with the business and working with their team to translate into yearly objectives.
  • Lead all aspects of the Human Resources function on behalf of the organization.
  • Drive the evolution of best-in-class programs in the areas of Leadership Development, Diversity Equity & Inclusion, Talent Acquisition & Retention, Culture & Engagement, and Total Rewards, to align with company's strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure HR Policies and Practices are compliant with Regulatory Requirements, for example, ESA, OHSA, AODA and any other relevant legislation.
  • Lead organization design and workforce planning initiatives to align with long-term business needs and strategies.
  • Own the development and growth of the HR team through effective training, coaching, team building, and succession planning.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that supports equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation efforts.
  • Foster and maintain strong internal relationships with key business leaders and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a coach and confidante to Senior Leaders around people and organizational issues and leadership development.
  • Provides oversight and acts as advisor to employees and leaders on all HR matters, including compliance with employment legislation, company policies and procedures and compensation.
  • Supports management in defining and successfully implementing change management processes in line with key business objectives.
  • Prepare all necessary fillings and information for effective budgeting, financial analysis, strategic initiatives and any and Management Board or Board of Directors presentations.
  • Keep apprised of federal, provincial and local compensation and employment laws and regulations in order to ensure statutory compliance.

What You Will Need :

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience, CHRP designation or post-graduate degree an asset.
  • Minimum 10+ plus years of progressive leadership experience in HR with demonstrated well-rounded HR functional expertise.
  • Ability to translate business initiatives into clear, consistent and progressive HR strategy.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, risk, and changing direction of projects and strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and management skills and high professional standards for customer service and work quality.
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions. Able to work with diverse personalities and styles.
  • Provides solutions by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required.
  • Display willingness to make decisions, exhibit sound and accurate judgment, and make timely decisions.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively verbally or through written documents.
  • Financial acumen and previous experience owning and managing to budgets.
  • Computer skills to produce and interpret reports, documents and presentations.
