How You Will Make an Impact

The Residential Support Worker position at Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes focuses on providing comprehensive support and services to clients in a manner that upholds the organization's Mission and Values.

The role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including engaging in the intake process, conducting client assessments, maintaining accurate and confidential client records, and offering direct support through various programming such as life skills development, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling.

In this role, you will emphasize advocacy, empowerment, and assistance to clients in sustaining their home and community roles.

This includes helping clients understand their mental health diagnoses, managing medications, and encouraging proactive engagement with healthcare professionals.

You will also develop and maintain relationships with other health and social service providers, participating in staff meetings, training activities, case conferences, and liaising with community workers to enhance client support and resources.

Flexibility in performing duties not directly related to the position, as directed by the Program Manager or their delegate, is also required, demonstrating a versatile approach to meeting the needs of clients and contributing to the overall objectives of Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Applicants will have initiated post-secondary education or have a combination of post-secondary education and experience in the field of social services
  • Three years experience in a similar type of position
  • Be knowledgeable on principles of Housing First, harm reduction, substance use, mental health, homelessness, and poverty
  • A demonstrated commitment to the mission values of availability, responsibility, adaptability, quality and dignity is essential
  • Understand and utilize approaches in person centered, anti-oppression, anti-racism frameworks and harm reduction principles
  • Valid CPR certification (or willingness to be certified)
  • Committed to anti-racist / anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
  • Having a Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation
