About the role

Coast Underwriters is looking for a Senior Commercial Marine Underwriter to join our growing team!

What you’ll do here :

• Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Coast’s underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager.
• Focus on sustainable profitable growth
• Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with brokers
• Use effective communication and negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
• Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner
• Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
• Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals
• Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements and cancellations.
• Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required.
• Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines and new products.
• Support and mentor team members within Coast Underwriters as well as other divisions at Intact.

What you bring to the table :

• University degree / College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Prior Marine experience is a desirable asset.
• Strong customer service and time management skills
• Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and are flexibility to change
• Strong team player possessing outstanding collaboration and communication skills
• Inquisitive and self-motivated individual possessing strong analytical and negotiating skills
• Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to make decisions in time sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action and take calculated risks
• Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• CIP designation or working towards designation
• No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
