Reporting to the Manager, Engineering the incumbent provides a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System.
The incumbent performs technical studies and assessments; participates in short-range strategic planning; prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies, and demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies
The Incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing the Electrical authority.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create engineering scopes and documents for planned capital projects
- Perform various system studies to ensure the safe, reliable, efficient and economical operation of our distribution system (i.e., load flow analyses etc.)
- Review and perform quality checks on study results and reports as produced by other team members
- Propose and evaluate grid solutions to enhance grid reliability and efficiency
- Prepare engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations
- Provide timely technical support and consultation through effective project management and the development of process efficiencies
- Pursue a high level of internal and external client satisfaction, and fosters a customer-centric focus
- Reviews, develops and / or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices
- Manage relationships with inter-organizational business units and external customers as required
- Active participation in industry working groups and committees to keep apprised of industry best practices and influence policy development and decision making
- Support the continued development and improvement of network analysis systems and tools (i.e. CYME)
- Provide technical support or leadership on strategic technical projects
- May be called upon to as a team or project leader
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Four (4) or more years of Engineering experience
- Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
- Valid Class G Drivers License preferred
- Knowledge of power distribution and electrical substations
- Experience working with the Distribution System Code (DSC) and Toronto Hydro’s Conditions of Service
- Experience with grid automation and SCADA / DMS systems
- Fluent in the application of information technology, such as general office software, SAP, GIS systems
- Experience in the use of power distribution network analysis software, such as CYME
- Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities
- Demonstrated versatile leadership; encourage organizational teamwork, collaboration and educated risk taking to develop innovative solutions and support the corporate goals
