Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, Telecommunications Network Planning & Engineering, this position will be primarily responsible for activities related to the capital maintenance program, O&M support, and regulatory compliance associated with ATCO Electric's telecommunications network.

Responsibilities :

Capital Maintenance Program Support :

  • Work with stakeholders to prepare and maintain a categorized and prioritized list of candidate projects to address issues in the telecom network involving primarily asset end-of-life and modernization, and network capacity and reliability improvement.
  • For each candidate project, compile and maintain data on the need / problem to be addressed, solution scope and estimated cost.
  • Work with Asset Management to build annual programs based on these projects and communicate the resulting programs to stakeholders and adjust those programs as needs change.
  • Assist Project Managers with understanding project scope and interdependencies at project kickoff.
  • Respond promptly to IR requests during GTA-related regulatory hearings.

Project Support :

For projects of all types (DA, TCM, etc.), take the lead (within Telecom Planning & Engineering) on securing, cataloging within records systems, and maintaining contracts for services provided by 3rd parties including but not limited to : Co-location of ATCO Electric equipment in / on 3rd party towers, buildings, and sites.

Telecommunications services provided to ATCO by 3rd parties such as TELUS and InfoSAT.

Support project teams on proper retirement of decommissioned telecom assets from financial systems.

Strategic Opportunities :

Proactively look for emergent project opportunities that further strategic objectives. Once identified, prioritize relative to other opportunities and work with Asset Management to secure TCM funding as appropriate.

Operations & Maintenance Support :

  • Provide support as / when requested to field personnel dealing with issues relating to the telecom network.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance standards for equipment deployed by Telecom Engineering.
  • Assist Asset Management with annual planning and prioritization of PMs on telecom assets.
  • Review PM test results.
  • Enable the transition to condition-based maintenance by developing and implementing Historian-based gathering of performance data from telecom infrastructure.
  • Assist Asset Management with development and maintenance of Operational Status index for telecom assets.
  • Work with Asset Management to projectize emergent network issues into the TCM program as appropriate.

Maintenance Engineering :

Undertake projects related to engineering support for mainte3nance activities, including maintenance standards and monitoring tools that support a transition towards condition-based maintenance, such as Historian.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer designation through APEGA.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in telecom and / or asset management environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and contribute in a team environment;
  • Strong organizational skills including ability to self-schedule activities required in multiple concurrent projects.

Individuals only partially meeting the required qualifications may be considered in a developmental capacity.
