Post description
The role consists in managing and controlling the financial aspects of projects from the start to completion. The incumbent is a big fan of data.
By extracting relevant data from various project management systems, he will gain insights into project progress, resource utilization, budget management and much more.
The role will involve financial forecasting, monitoring project costs, analysing variances, participating to different meetings, assisting with different internal processes and providing regular reports to management.
The incumbent will be a great support to the Projects Director and will work closely with project managers, stakeholders and the accounting department to ensure projects are delivered within budget and on schedule.
Main responsibilities
Financial Planning and Forecasting :
- Develop and maintain project budgets in collaboration with project managers and accounting department;
- Prepare financial forecasts and analyze variances to ensure projects stay within budgetary constraints;
- Assist in the development of project financial strategies and recommend cost-saving measures where possible.
Cost Control Monitoring :
- Monitor project costs and expenditures throughout the project lifecycle;
- Track expenses, review invoices and reconcile financial discrepancies;
- Identify potential cost overruns or underutilization of funds and take corrective actions as needed.
Financial Reporting :
- Prepare regular financial reports and updates for project stakeholders and management;
- Provide analysis of project financial performance, highlighting key metrics and trends;
- Communicate financial status, risks, and opportunities to project teams and stakeholders.
Risk Management :
- Identify financial risks and potential issues that may impact project delivery;
- Work with project teams to develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans;
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Compliance, Quality and Governance :
- Ensure project financial activities to comply with company policies, regulations and contractual agreements;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation;
- Support audits and reviews by internal and external stakeholders as required;
- Identify, apply, and evaluate quality control techniques to support the monitoring the quality of the processes.
Miscellaneous :
- Extract relevant data from various project management systems and present the results;
- Prepare the workload planning for the resources;
- Participate occasionally to the bid process to help the sales department.
Profile required
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field;
- Min. of 5 years experience as a project controller or similar role in project management;
- Strong understanding of project management principles, methodologies and practices;
- Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting;
- Strong capacity to extract data from multiple sources;
- Excellent communication skills written and spoken (English a must, French a strong asset);
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Good Knowledge of MS-Office suite, with advanced proficiency in Excel;
- Proficient with MS-Project;
- Good analytical skills;
- Team spirit;
- Rigorous and methodical;
- Strong attention to details;
- Effective deadlines management;
- Ability to travel, from several days to several weeks occasionally;
- Valid passport and driving license.
