Position : Security Guard

Site : London Public Library - Crouch Branch

Site Address : 550 Hamilton Road, London, ON N5Z 1S4

Status : Part Time

Hours : Tuesday - Thursday 0900-1700, Friday 1000-1800 & Saturday 0900-1700hrs

Pay Rate : $18.00 / hr

Overtime Method : Employment Standards Act - calculation after 88 hours bi-weekly

Assignments include :

• Maintain order in the branch which includes taking the lead on all incidents, especially persons entering the washrooms to engage in drug use / criminal acts.
• Opening and closing the facility, patrolling interior and exterior spaces and controlling access / egress and providing security escorts as required
• Operating, accessing and occasionally monitoring the video surveillance equipment
• Monitoring and responding to alarm systems
• Guards should at all times, maintain a high standard of civility, deportment and appearance and guards shall maintain a proactive philosophy of compassion and de-escalation
• Supporting staff, volunteers, tenants and Library patrons by knowing and understanding the Library's Rules of Conduct and being able to apply these rules in a fair, dignified and positive manner.
• Reporting Incidents using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool
• Resolving incidents according to the Library's guidelines, instructions, procedures and reporting on incidents according to established procedures
• Protecting all persons (including public, staff, volunteers, on-site contractors, tenants) and property in the event of medical, fire, disaster, severe weather, bomb threat, evacuation and other emergencies
• Functioning as the Primary First Aid service provider at the Central Library. This might include the ability to administer a blocking medication such as Naloxone and use of devices such as automated external defibrillators (AED)
• All Emergency occurs are to be reported to the Library as soon as possible. A written incident report, using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool, shall be provided to the Library on any or all minor / major incidents

Essential Job Functions :

• Able to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
• Write clear, concise and legible reports
• Patrol assigned area on foot, as assigned, to ensure personal, building and equipment security
• Communicates any concerns / issues with Site Supervisor
• Able to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
• Demonstrated punctuality and reliability, tact and diplomacy
• Watch for and report irregularities by completing investigations and incident reports, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations;

contact emergency responders, such as police, fire and / or ambulance personnel, as required

Requirements :

• Physical demands include excessive walking such as walking up to 5km in a shift and standing
• Working knowledge of the Trespass to Property Act
• Able to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
• Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service along with good computer abilities are all core requirements
• Superior written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write clear, concise and legible reports
• Demonstrated punctuality and reliability, tact and diplomacy
• Patrol assigned area on foot, as assigned, to ensure personal, building and equipment security
• Watch for and report irregularities by completing investigations and incident reports, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations;

contact emergency responders, such as police, fire and / or ambulance personnel, as required

• Sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders and provide specialized security services by enforcing rules and regulations when required
• Offer support to any person in need such as providing good customer service when providing a security presence, such as providing direction, responding to emergencies involving violent individuals and injuries
