Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Director, Financial Reporting, to join our growing finance team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Director will play a critical role in preparing and delivering the company's consolidated financial results and driving overall financial performance.

This is an ideal role for a seasoned CPA looking for both a broad mandate and an opportunity to flex their leadership, technical, and consolidation abilities.

Location :

This role will be based in Toronto, ON and is a hybrid role. 10% travel within Canada is required

Financial Reporting :

  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, along with note disclosures, for all entities, including the consolidation.
  • Manage and coordinate the annual audit process.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities within the accounting function and implement best practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and productivity, staying updated on industry trends, regulations, and emerging accounting standards.
  • Participate in setting financial policies and accounting procedures surrounding new projects and provide accounting training and guidance to operational finance teams.
  • Act as the main point of contact for external parties, including regulators, government authorities, and auditors, as it relates to financial compliance and reporting.
  • Communicate financial results, trends, and significant accounting issues to senior management and the board of directors.
  • Be responsible for the continuous improvement and integration of accounting tools (e.g., ERP migration) and processes.
  • Conduct financial analysis and variance explanations to interpret results, identify trends, and provide insights into the organization's performance.

Tax :

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all tax returns, including income, sales, property, and payroll taxes.
  • Manage tax audits and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of tax strategies with external consultants

Finance Project Leadership :

  • Lead accounting system implementation, including development and review of the chart of accounts.
  • Support financing and M&A activities, including due diligence, integration planning, post-acquisition valuation, and purchase price allocation
  • Support ad hoc projects and initiatives in a fast-paced and growing organization.

Internal Controls :

  • Develop, implement, and monitor robust internal controls and risk mitigation strategies in accordance with industry standards.
  • Continually assess control effectiveness and address any deficiencies or gaps.

Team Leadership and Development :

  • Lead the accounting team, located across Canada, through hands-on, side-by-side coaching and ensure accounting staff is adequately trained and supported.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the financial reporting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and curiosity.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team members' technical skills and knowledge of reporting standards.

Desired Qualifications :

  • 10 years of experience working with financial statements, including consolidation and technical accounting.
  • Hold a CPA (or equivalent) with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of accounting principles, relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Possess experience with accounting system implementations / remediations and development of chart of accounts.
  • Have a proven track record in managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Be a high-energy, self-starter with a sense of urgency in initiating and implementing best practices in a complex, multi-faceted business environment.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of accurately reporting financial analysis, providing and managing financial solutions for senior management and the board of directors.
  • Be a team player capable of interacting professionally with both staff and clients.
  • Exhibit the ability to function in a collaborative, dynamic, and fast-paced work environment.
  • Have experience with Sage Intacct as an asset.
  • Possess experience with multi-site operations and / or healthcare as an asset.
  • French language skills are an asset.
