Job Description

  • Regulatory Adherence : Ensure that construction activities, throughout all phases of the subway project, adhere to federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, applicable environmental permits, approvals, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Environmental Monitoring : Monitor and assess environmental conditions during construction activities, including air quality, water quality, and soil quality.
  • Site Inspections : Conduct regular, comprehensive inspections of construction sites to identify potential environmental hazards, with a focus on areas such as watercourses, erosion and sedimentation control measures, spills, effluent containment, and dust management.
  • Raising awareness : Communicate inspections findings, recommendations, and compliance requirements to project managers, contractors, and stakeholders, by providing expert guidance and advice on environmental issues, best practices, and mitigation measures.
  • Stakeholder Communication : Liaise with environmental consultants, community groups, and stakeholders to communicate environmental plans, address concerns, and ensure transparency.
  • Compliance Reporting : Support and advise Environmental Team in comprehensive environmental compliance reports to regulatory authorities, project managers, and stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Training and Guidance : Provide training and guidance to project teams, contractors, and subcontractors on environmental best practices, regulations, and protocols.
  • Sustainability Initiatives : Support sustainability initiatives within the project, such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, green procurement, and biodiversity conservation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in infrastructure construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing environmental management systems and compliance strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex environmental data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in the use of environmental monitoring equipment and software.
