Overview :
Pembina’s Legal Services Unit (LSU), a part of Pembina's External Affairs Division, has an opening for a Manager, Associate General Counsel due to professional advancements within our organization.
The prospective LSU manager will lead a component of the LSU team, which collectively provides a variety of legal services, from commercial and corporate to regulatory, litigation, and securities legal support to our entire company.
The Legal Team is committed to delivering trusted, efficient, and proactive legal guidance while safeguarding Pembina's interests.
The selected individual will report to the Vice President, General Counsel and will be incorporated into Pembina's LSU leadership team.
The Manager, Associate General Counsel will have overall responsibility for leadership of the legal services provided to Human Resources, Supply Chain, Land, Environment & Regulatory, Community and Indigenous Affairs, Government Relations, Communications and Enterprise Risk departments and related Business Units in addition to providing leadership and direction on litigation matters.
This position requires you to serve as a trusted advisor and resource for the Vice President, General Counsel, and Pembina's Executive team.
Responsibilities will include directing, aiding, and advising seasoned legal professionals while offering practical, on-the-ground legal advice to Pembina's Business and Service Units.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to :
- Provide timely and strategic leadership and advice on all matters of responsibility, with a focus on permitting, compliance, emergency response and complex litigation matters;
- Provide oversight of Pembina’s whistleblower program and associated investigations;
- Drive knowledge management and legal process improvement initiatives and support corporate productivity initiatives;
- Effectively lead internal and external legal professionals and provide guidance, training, advice and support to managers and supervisors in relation to the foregoing;
- Train, coach, mentor and manage performance, and facilitate employees' career development;
- On-boarding, education and training of direct reports including setting and tracking of goals;
- Respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally;
- Establish and maintain strong and positive working relationships across all levels of the organization;
- Research and identify technical / functional solutions that will meet business requirements;

Qualifications :
- 10+ years of experience practicing law, a Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree, and a membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta;
- Significant AER, CER and / or FERC regulatory and litigation management experience;
- Experience leading whistleblower program and investigations;
- Familiarity with privacy law requirements;
- Candidates with experience leading an in-house legal team preferred;
- Ability to understand and deliver on business objectives and priorities and strives to gain strong institutional knowledge about department and company processes;
- Ability to communicate legal advice clearly, concisely and practically;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization and external service providers;
- Consummate team player with excellent judgment and the ability to work collaboratively with and direct and influence others by building trust and credibility;
- A self-starter who is competent in handling multiple tasks in a changing environment with attention to detail;
- High level of professionalism; handles sensitive / confidential information with appropriate care;
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking / prioritization abilities;
- Strong leadership, facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; and
- Exhibits a strong propensity for critical thinking coupled with excellent analytical and logical problem-solving abilities.
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
