What qualifications are we looking for?

Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within outdoor based programs
Experience planning and implementing hike and canoe expeditions
Experience supervising or mentoring counsellors in expedition focused programs
Previous experience working with people of all abilities and a solid understanding of the integration process
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months) at minimum
Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
Evidence of proof of COVID-19 vaccine

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Reporting to the Camp Director (manager), the Expedition Coordinator is responsible for :
Organizing the Expedition Centre to best support expedition planning and packing
Plan and book trips and permits for each group through the spring and summer
Organize and participate in spring training and scouting trips
Assess and monitor trip gear and backcountry communication devices
Plan menus and order food, oversee food packing
Plan and execute trip transportation logistics
Leading backcountry evacuations and support, and be available to help with backcountry emergency response
Supervision of 2-4 staff
The Expedition Centre Coordinator will work in the outdoors for the majority of each day. Coordinators will need to lift program supplies, walk, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
By design Expedition Centre Coordinator positions can be physically taxing requiring long periods of walking and standing and participating in physical activities and games.
The position will require moderate bending, lifting and repetitive movements as needed during Camp programs.
