We are a recruitment agency representing a well-established real estate developer with a growing portfolio of commercial properties.
The company manages five commercial properties and is seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Property Accountant to join its finance team.
Position Overview
The Senior Commercial Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial management of five commercial properties.
This role requires a candidate with strong expertise in commercial property accounting (4-5 years of experience) and the ability to manage two additional key areas : investment accounting and cash reporting .
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive, with a deep understanding of financial reporting requirements in the real estate industry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial Property Accounting
- Manage full-cycle accounting for five commercial properties, including accounts payable / receivable, rent roll management, and tenant reconciliations.
- Perform yearend reconciliations of TMI costs against recoveries from tenants
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for property performance.
- Perform variance analysis to track budget vs. actuals.
- Monitor lease agreements and ensure accurate revenue recognition and expense allocations.
2. Investment Accounting
- Assist with tracking and reporting on investment performance across the portfolio.
- Support investment-related forecasts, budgets, and financial models.
- Collaborate with the asset management team to ensure proper alignment of financial data for investments.
3. Cash Reporting & Management
- Oversee the preparation of weekly and monthly cash flow reports.
- Monitor cash balances and recommend fund transfers or cash optimizations as necessary.
- Work closely with finance leadership to forecast cash requirements and report on liquidity.
4. Compliance & Audit Support
- Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and internal policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and assist with tax filing processes.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
Qualifications and Requirements
- 4-5 years of experience in commercial property accounting.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required).
- Proficiency in property management software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and accounting tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in investment accounting and cash reporting is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
