Veterinary Technician

Location : Ottawa, ON

Alta Vista Animal Hospital is welcoming a float technician / RVT for our hospital. Great opportunity for some extra cash for a seasoned technician.

New grads are also welcome!

We offer 24-hour emergency and critical care services in our state-of-the-art facility. Our float technicians train in our Emergency, Critical Care / Treatment, Triage, General Practice and Specialty Departments so they are able to fill in where needed and can continue to learn and grow their technical skills.

Schedule : Hours of work vary from 8 to 12 hours in length, including days, evenings, weekends and overnights based on availability.

Qualifications

Veterinary Technician college diploma

Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral)

Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift to 25kg

The technical skills that you will be utilizing include, but are not limited to :

• Assessment, triage, and, care of ill patients; Hourly treatments including feeding, administering medications, assessing pain / status, restraint, and, lifting;
• Anesthetics, X-rays, and, laboratory work; Stocking, cleaning, and, maintenance of Emergency area and equipment; Provide lunch coverage for various departments;

Math calculations, and, Client updates.

• Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations; Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks / projects;
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and teamwork skills; Proven ability to organize, takes initiative, works independently, exercises good judgment;
• Decision-making and critical thinking skills; Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with professionalism and integrity;

Exhibits a positive attitude and uses courtesy, diplomacy and discretion; and, Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality.
