The Category Buyer is essential in executing procurement strategies for specific categories, supporting various locations by ensuring the supply of relevant products and services meets business needs.

They negotiate and manage relationships with key suppliers to secure competitive terms, contributing to cost savings and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the Buyer stays informed about market trends and collaborates closely with internal teams, ensuring procurement aligns with organizational goals and departmental requirements, thus playing a critical role in the company's overall success.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and upholds agreements for corporate overhead and operational supplies.
  • Capitalizes on opportunities to meet the needs of the business unit.
  • Ensures continuous alignment of supplier strategy and business, including managing supplier relationships and quality programs.
  • Guarantees the supply chain is secure, eco-friendly, and efficiently managed.
  • Achieves specific savings and enhances performance, taking responsibility for reducing costs and improving supply chain performance in designated categories.
  • Facilitates the issuance of subcontract and material supply orders.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in category management and engages with interdisciplinary teams to apply agreements enterprise-wide.
  • Produces and delivers reports that are both timely and precise.
  • Identifies strategies for cost reduction and service enhancement.
  • Performs regular analysis on categories, supplier evaluations, forecasts, and estimates savings and rebates.
  • Supports the financial objectives and goals of category management.
  • Prioritizes strong communication and fosters relationships with both internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Serves as the primary contact between operational clients and key suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Completion of post-secondary technical training from a recognized institution or at least 3 years of direct experience in buying and sourcing, with experience in redistribution considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability in negotiating and overseeing contracts.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A good grasp of negotiation techniques and their application in everyday business dealings.
  • Capable of juggling multiple tasks and setting priorities efficiently.
  • Self-driven, with a keen eye for detail and the capacity to handle sensitive or restricted information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with an ERP system.
  • Skilled in ensuring the quality and timely delivery of goods.
  • A track record of successful sourcing, procurement, and establishing strong supplier partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and planning capabilities.
  • Independent worker, able to operate effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Professional demeanor. Upholds the business ethics and values of the company.
  • Positive outlook, adept at nurturing relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues, and committed to resolving complex issues creatively for the benefit of all parties involved.
