Starting Salary : $74,098 / year

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Workplace Investigator to work full-time for our Commissionaires Ottawa headquarters.

What you will be doing

You will be required to conduct multiple investigations simultaneously for several of our federal government clients, and resolve complex workplace issues and complaints.

Some of your responsibilities include

  • Conduct investigations and maintain appropriate records in a confidential manner
  • Draft investigative interview summaries, within established timeframes, and submit them to the appropriate parties
  • Prepare and write complex Employee Relations / Human Resources investigative reports and summarize the findings with supporting documentation that is fair, impartial, and representative of the facts
  • Analyze the investigation’s results to determine whether the facts suggested a violation of policy and or legislation

Your must-haves :

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience providing workplace harassment and violence investigative services, within the last ten (10) years
  • Experience with the principles and practices of investigation and research, including interview techniques, principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting, research techniques and data collection
  • Investigative experience with the Federal Government Departments is required, therefore the applicant must be accredited and listed as a resource by Public Services and Procurement Canada, to conduct harassment investigations, pursuant to the National Master Standing Offer for Investigative Services Work Place Harassment and Violence.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Human Rights code, and relevant Canadian Labour and Employment Law, including but not limited to the Canada Labour Code Part II (specifically Bill C-65 42-1), the Ontario Labour Relations Act, the Employment Standards Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), OH&S Regulations Part XX-Violence Prevention in the Workplace
  • Proven ability to thoroughly collect and synthesize information obtained through interviews and research
  • Experience in proposing recommendations based on the investigation findings
  • Experience collecting, analyzing and interpreting information received from investigations
  • Experience conducting interviews with Complainants, Respondents and Witnesses
  • An Enhanced Reliability level Security Clearance or the ability to successfully obtain one
  • Are willing to travel when required

Your Education :

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Human Resources and / or Employment Law and / or Industrial Psychology and / or Private Investigations
  • Professional designation (i.e CHRP, CHRL, LLB, Private Investigator), is considered an asset
  • Training in Administrative Investigative Techniques, Canadian Human Rights Law and Canadian Labour Law and Employment law
  • Certified training in any relevant field is required, such as : Arbitration, ADR / conciliation, cross-cultural / diversity, counselling / coaching, sociology, industrial psychology, ethical reasoning, self-management, occupational health & safety, harassment and violence prevention, mental health, domestic violence, cyberbullying, or legal
