Painter
Facilities Maintenance Department
Position Status : Regular, 100%
Work Year : Works 12 months per year
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday, Eight (8) consecutive hours between 6 : 00 am and 4 : 00 pm, excluding an unpaid meal period of up to one hour; 40 hours per week
Salary range : $35.31 to $36.54 per hour ($73,439 to $75,998 per year)
- Under the direction of the Team Lead or designate, the Painter performs a variety of duties related to the general painting and decorating of school buildings, furniture and equipment, lining gym floors;
- ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner, complying with Board and legislative standards and codes; ensuring Board vehicles, equipment and tools are properly maintained;
performing other related duties to ensure that properties, facilities, and equipment are properly maintained.
Qualifications
Knowledge of and continual upgrading of relevant codes and legislation (Acts and Regulations), new materials, equipment, products, methods and procedures.
Skilled in mixing and matching paint colours, and matching stained woodwork; and ability to perform plaster and drywall repairs and to prepare work surfaces accurately and thoroughly.
Ability to climb scaffolds and ladders on both the exterior and interior of the building; work may involve working in awkward positions or spaces.
- Incumbent must possess interpersonal, communication and listening skills required to liaise with co-workers, principals, site supervisors and other Board personnel regarding painting at Board sites;
- organization skills to prioritize work orders / requests and to reschedule activities in order to deal with on-call emergencies;
computer skills to use electronic mail system and computer maintenance management system.
Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
Completion of Secondary School diploma, Ontario Journeyman Certificate of Qualification as a Painter and Decorator, and 5 years experience in residential / commercial buildings is required.
Ontario Certificate as Plasterer / Drywaller may also be considered with sufficient painting experience. Must keep all licenses current and take approved training courses as required.
Valid Class 'G' driver's license, or equivalent is required.
