The Opportunity

Picton Mahoney Asset Management is presently looking for a Quantitative Research Analyst to contribute to the growth and success of our Quantitative Research & Risk team.

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager and Director, Quantitative Research & Risk, the ideal candidate is highly analytical, driven, curious and determined to solve challenging problems.

Based out of our Head Office in Toronto, the individual will work closely with our Portfolio Management and Portfolio Construction teams to develop quantitative financial and portfolio management models, assist with identifying quantitative opportunities and more.

Responsibilities of the Role

  • Conduct research that incorporates investment insight and empirical analysis to develop statistical models for equity return prediction, risk modeling and portfolio construction.
  • Research, develop and maintain existing and new alpha strategies using traditional and alternative data sets.
  • Use data analysis to develop robust quantitative investment framework that enhances investment decision-making and continually build, maintain and automate existing and new analytical tools for efficient quantitative analysis and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with various teams across PMAM to implement enhancements to investment strategies, enhance our income platform, identify cross asset quantitative opportunities, as well as assist with projects related to factor investing, sector modeling, and portfolio construction.
  • Identify, develop and back test investment factors.
  • Contribute unique ideas, insights, expertise to improve our quantitative investment platform.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for data and analysis from fundamental, operations, marketing, etc.

The Qualifications and Experience Required

  • 3-5 years of experience in quantitative asset management research with application of mathematics, statistics or other empirical analysis to develop quantitative models.
  • Academic background in engineering, mathematics, statistics, quantitative finance, computer science, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL, including database design, as well as programming experience in Python and R.
  • CFA, FRM or CAIA designation or enrollment in one of these programs is an asset.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Strong understanding of equity markets and analysis of financial statements.
  • Ability to work with large and disparate data and communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Understanding of quantitative investment research methods in a bond, credit or equity role is an asset.
