Job description

Description & Requirements Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen. EA SPORTS is one of the most iconic brands in entertainment - connecting hundreds of millions around the world to the sports they love through a portfolio of industry-leading video games. The EA SPORTS UFC franchise offers the electrifying spectacle and entertainment of MMA for over 20 million players across the globe. It delivers fluid and responsive mixed martial arts through inventive gameplay technology. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, the EA SPORTS UFC team is on a mission to become the world's greatest fighting game. If you're passionate about building immersive digital entertainment, this is the role of a lifetime. As an Online Software Engineer, you will help maintain and extend the systems that power our connected experience. These systems include matchmaking, social features, live events, progression, real-time gameplay and cross-platform play, serving hundreds of thousands of concurrent players. Your work will shape how players interact, form communities, and enjoy UFC together. You will work in a hybrid model, 3 days a week out of our EAV Studio in Burnaby, British Columbia (Tuesday to Thursday) and will report to the Online Technical lead. Responsibilities

  • Build the Connected UFC Experience. Work across client, backend, and data systems to deliver premium live-service features guided by real-world UFC moments to keep players connected and engaged.
  • Engineering Excellence for Scale. Maintain scalable systems to support global live service demands, while ensuring stability during peak player activity.
  • Collaborate Across Domains. Partner with designers, engineers, and production to build authentic and engaging online experiences. Integrate platform and shared technology services in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Innovate & Evolve. Refine features using live insights to keep the experience fresh and rewarding. Explore opportunities to use AI tools to improve development efficiency, automation, and testing workflows.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer developing online games or scalable online applications.
  • Proficiency in C++ and comfort working in large-scale, real-time codebases.
  • Experience working with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
  • Experience with networked systems: client/server models, service integration, latency considerations, and multithreaded environments.
  • Familiar with source control such as Git or Perforce.
  • Collaborate across diverse teams and break down complex problems into clean, maintainable solutions.
  • Experience in utilizing AI-assisted development tools (e.g. coding agents) to rapid prototype, accelerate execution and automate workflows, with the ability to critically review and validate AI-generated code.
