Organizational Profile
The CVRD respectfully acknowledges that the land on which it operates is located on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional stewards and caretakers of this land. The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is a diverse and vibrant regional government located on the east coast of Vancouver Island. Stretching from the calm waters of the Salish Sea, including Denman and Hornby Islands, to the majestic peaks of the Beaufort Mountains and Strathcona Provincial Park, the region offers an exceptional combination of natural beauty, community connection, and economic opportunity.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Information Systems and GIS, the Cybersecurity Manager plays a leadership role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the CVRD’s information and systems. This proactive, strategic role focuses on assessing, planning, and implementing information security best practices. The Cybersecurity Manager is directly responsible for delivering the organization’s IT security program, including related training, corporate awareness, policies, procedures, security breach investigations, and remedial action plans to ensure compliance with cybersecurity frameworks and the security of all CVRD data. This position also has a lead role in compliance and risk management, assisting in the review of Privacy Impact Assessments to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
This is an incredible opportunity for a collaborative, service-oriented, and community-focused cybersecurity leader to be part of an organization with a direct impact on residents' quality of life. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology, supplemented by five years of related work experience in delivering cybersecurity services. The ideal candidate will hold a designation as a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent, in addition to a Project Management Certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
