Who are we looking for?

GHD is seeking a Dams & Tailings Engineer in Training to join one of our fastest growing Canadian Operations. You would join our Engineering Design Organization team (EDO), working directly for our Dams group.

Professional development opportunities through the GHD Business School including internal global technical conferences and external training are available and participation in relevant industry associations is supported and encouraged.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :

  • Provide geotechnical input and engineering design for tailings and dams projects
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes
  • Input to the engineering design, documentation and reports for new dams, raising and upgrading of existing dams.
  • Input to various aspects of dam safety management associated with tailings dams, including review and reporting on dam safety compliance with regulatory and other standards
  • Ability to work independently on tasks and collaborate with others
  • A willingness to travel infrequently for projects (nationally and potentially internationally)
  • Provide geotechnical engineering oversight and input to tailings dam construction
  • Input to proposals for future work with clients
  • Ongoing compliance with GHD’s Quality, Environmental Management and Occupational Health Safety & Rehabilitation Systems

What you bring to the team :

  • Registered
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering of tailings dams and / or water dams
  • The technical experience and skills specific for this position include : Developed skills and understanding of geotechnical engineering for dams
  • Experience working in multi-disciplined teams is preferred (including geologists, structural engineers, hydraulic engineers and possibly hydropower engineers).
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards, industry guidelines and current industry practices
  • Ability to work with a growing international team
  • Ability to work within a team, manage your own time and work on multiple projects concurrently, good written and verbal communication skills in English along with an ability to work well with a variety of clients.
