The Behaviour Support Specialist will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to develop, build, and evaluate behavioural care plans and interventions, primarily for patients on the Behavioural Neurology unit (4W), which is a 20-bed locked unit.
The Behavioural Support Specialist will develop and support the skills of our care team, who assess and treat patients with dementia, various neurodegenerative diseases, and other associated behaviours that have not responded to other methods of treatment or programs.
The Behaviour Support Specialist will report to the Program Director, Neuropsychology and Cognitive Health Program and Interprofessional Practice Chief.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Provides comprehensive clinical behavioural assessment and behavior support services to the inpatient Behavioural Neurology unit and other behaviour support services / programs in the Hospital
Provides training to staff and students related to behaviour support
Provides comprehensive clinical assessments with a focus on identifying factors contributing to responsive behaviors utilizing a bio-psychosocial framework
Collaborates with client, care partners, and the client’s circle of care to develop and disseminate individualized behavior management interventions and care plans
Participates in data collection and reporting on a number of accountability measures
Attends and contributes to team meetings, patient rounds, and educational series
Other duties as directed
Qualifications include but are not limited to :
Master’s degree in a relevant field
Registration as a Behaviour Analyst with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario
Minimum three (3) years demonstrated expertise and knowledge working with individuals with various neurodegenerative diseases including dementia, and those with acute behavioural changes and associated responsive behaviours
Experience / familiarity with behavioural, cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental assessments relating to responsive behaviours
Training and experience in applied behaviour analysis and behavioural support management approaches including, but not limited to Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA), P.
I.E.C.E.S., U-First!, Montessori Approach preferred
Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating behavioural support programs, quality improvement, and education for team members
Demonstrated ability and experience conducting clinical research
Demonstrated excellent clinical-reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving, and interprofessional collaboration skills
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite), and use of health information systems
