About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Technical Supervisor, Transfusion Science to join our dynamic Testing team.

The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by performing routine testing, as well as other relevant lab duties.

Formula for success

  • Manages the laboratory process flows to meet customer needs and monitors operational effectiveness through key performance indicators and other means.
  • Monitors and reports compliance with corporate quality standards for laboratory areas; manages technical and support staff assigned to the testing laboratory;
  • Maintain current comprehensive theoretical knowledge of medical laboratory science and methods through advanced studies, current literature and attending conferences.
  • Assists with the management of the testing facility and equipment to ensure there is adequate space for current and future testing needs;
  • that equipment is appropriate for testing needs and meets specifications and regulatory requirements; that environmental requirements are met;

and ensures the facility occupational health and safety requirements are met.

  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities, special projects and conducts a regular review of operations.
  • Performs Technical Supervisor duties primarily in the technical areas of Sample Receiving, National Immunohematology Reference Lab serology testing, Provincial reference testing and Consultation with Medical.
  • Supports operations in the performance of Complex red cell serology cases, Transfusion special cases, and External reference laboratory send outs

Desired education and skills

  • Registered / certified Medical Laboratory Technologist with Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • BSc, ART or SBB, two to five years of Red Cell Serology experience including 6 months of supervisory experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years related laboratory experience in area of key accountabilities including a minimum of three years supervisory / managerial experience and management training, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in the training / scheduling / evaluating personnel, development, writing and implementation of work instructions.
  • Previous GMP experience or in-depth knowledge of comparable quality management systems.
