Position Summary

Pathologist Assistant, Histopathology :

Your goal in this position is to perform independently or as a team member with a high degree of motivation and judgement. You have great skills and abilities in examining, describing, dissecting and photography of small and complex large surgical specimens of all tissue types. You are computer proficient and have strong knowledge of medical terminology. You have proven written and oral communication and strong interpersonal skills and display a high degree of professionalism. You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity and competence. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and / or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Assist with or perform neonatal autopsies under pathologists’ supervision
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities
  • Perform teaching duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology or equivalent (MLT with Advance training or Master Science program)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
  • Experience using “voice recognition” system an asset
  • Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) an asset
  • Working experience as histo-techologist is considered an asset
  • Bilingualism in French / English an asset
