Position Summary
The Nurse Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for patients affected by MAFLD (metabolic-associated fatty liver disease) through coordinated care, education, and advocacy.
This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the field of hepatology nursing and contribute to the advancement of patient care strategies for MAFLD management.
This position requires strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for improving patient outcomes in liver health.
One of the primary responsibilities will be
1. To provide comprehensive education to patients and their families on lifestyle modifications, dietary guidelines, medication adherence, and potential complications.
2. Facilitate access to resources and support services for patients
3. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and intervention plans.
4. Perform Fibroscan test
5. Collaborate with staff hepatologists to optimize patient care pathways and outcomes
6. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data analysis
7. Direct care responsibilities : performing venipuncture, IV insertion, albumin transfusions, paracentesis and thoracentesis procedures, wound care, recovering patients post procedures and liaising with clinicians regarding patient care.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a university, college, or other approved nursing program
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support ( program, Level II : Basic Rescuer certification
- Current certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Physical Health Assessment Course preferred
- Completion of the ECG interpretation course is an asset
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in hepatology, gastroenterology, or a related field.
- Certification in hepatology nursing or related specialty (preferred).
- Experience with phlebotomy, IV insertion, insertion of and access to vascular access lines, and administration of blood products
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and good judgement with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to work as an integral member of a team
- Excellent independent decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Patient teaching skills
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work under pressure
