The NAIT Forest Technology program is designed to train technologistswith skill sets that allow them to plan and carry out resource managementactivities without compromising the integrity or sustainability of theecosystems in which they practise.
Students in our program learn how to manage forests responsibly andsustainably through a variety of field activities, class lectures and dataanalysis.
The Educational LaboratoryTechnologist II plays a key role in supporting both instructors and students ina variety of settings.
NAIT’s Forest Technology program within the Department of NaturalSciences and Academic Studies has an opening for a full-time EducationalLaboratory Technologist.
Followingdirection of the Chair of Forest Technology, and reporting directly to theDepartment Head, this position will support the program instructional staff indelivering classes in the labs and field camps.
The successful candidate will be a team player with strong communicationand interpersonal skills with a background in forest management activities.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist with set-up and operation of field camps andfield labs
Prepare, maintain and repair program equipment
Transport equipment and students to field activitiesand program events
Setup and support classroom and lab activities
Provide mechanical and maintenance services
Other related duties
Skills& Abilities :
Periodic shift work and heavy manual labour for fieldcamp labs and set-up
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg)unassisted
Excellent communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Strong computer proficiency using Microsoft Office
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in ateam environment
Effective time management is essential
Qualifications :
Forest Technology Diploma
Related industry experience
Registered or eligible for registration with theCollege of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists (CAPFT) or College ofAlberta Professional Foresters (CAPF)
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 4License is an asset) driver’s abstract required
Current Standard First Aid and CPR
Chainsaw instructional certification OR Type 1Wildfire Crew Leader certification with active operational experience inAlberta would be an asset
Equivalencies may be considered
Applicants witheducation credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentialsevaluated by World Education Services or the International QualificationsAssessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration : $27.13- $36.65 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of stat holiday and vacation pay. (Classification Educational Lab Assistant II).
Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)Collective Agreement.
