Case Managers play a key role in managing disability claims, work related injuries and accommodation requests from our clients.
This entails coordinating the entire process of adjudicating claims, reintegrating employees to work after an absence, or change in their medical condition, including disability claims, work injury or any other medical condition.
The focus of the Disability Case Manager position is to effectively manage any absence from work and / or restrictions followed by timely and appropriately implementing a return to work plan.
This includes well-timed updates with the employee as well the clients and / or insurers to ensure the most effective and safe return to work plan is implemented
Here’s how
- With strong attention to detail and analytical ability, review claim forms, medical reports, investigation reports, contract provisions etc.
- Effectively record inbound / outbound communication
- Provide written and verbal communication to claimants, clients, administrators, doctors, lawyers, other insurers, etc : re : claim inquiries and outcome
- Review claims with Medical Director and Legal Department as required
- Using sound judgement, assess waiver of premium eligibility and determine eligibility of claims and fitness to work
- Develop and implement return to work strategies
- Interact and develop good relationship with several stakeholders to facilitate best results
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
You're the missing piece of the puzzle
- Successful completion and graduation from a Bachelor of Nursing program or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3-5 years disability claims experience / adjudication experience is preferred
- Preferred a College or University degree and / or certificate or continuing education courses towards FLHC, GBA, CDMP or similar industry designation.
A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- In-depth Group benefit and product knowledge as well as knowledge of Third Party Administrator
- Knowledge of general medical terminology and provincial insurance laws is required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, time management and decision-making abilities are required
- Strong planning and organizing skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced and performance driven environment as well as to adapt quickly and comfortably to change
- Strong oral and written communication skills (bilingual English French would be a major asset) and interpersonal skills combined with professional telephone etiquette
- Aptitude to work in a consultative mode with corporate clients
- Demonstrated analytical and negotiating skills while managing difficult situations
- Excellent customer service and results oriented in high volume environment
- Strong team player with unquestionable integrity as well as capable of working independently
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and a desire to succeed
- Knowledge of unionized work place is an asset
- Maintaining and gathering of statistical data for client
- Familiarity with Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook); demonstrated ability to learn and work well with customized computer software
- Evidence of active participation in professional growth and development activities
