Altis Recruitment is grateful to partner with an organization within the Broader Public Sector to support the recruitment of a Payroll Administrator.

This opportunity is a 1 year contract that is working on-site in their North York office. This opportunity will report directly into the Controller and work alongside a team of 4 professionalss.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing payroll processing for 200 staff on a monthly payroll, balance sheet reconciliation, and other accounting tasks.

This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities :

  • Accurately and promptly handle monthly payroll processing, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with the HR department to ensure accurate employee data and compliance with payroll policies.
  • Keep abreast of changes in payroll and accounting regulations to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant laws and standards.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights that support informed decision-making.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance and minimize risks.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the finance department.
  • Support with other accounting duties when needed : reconciliation and month end, etc
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and advancements in accounting and payroll software.

Qualifications :

  • Experience in the education sector is considered an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, especially Excel.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations and tax laws.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
  • Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
