Candidates must reside in the GTA area to be considered for this role as they will be required to be in office 3 days a week at the Toronto Corporate Office*

GENERAL FUNCTION

Reporting to the Senior Director of Financial Reporting, this position will be a critical member of the external financial reporting team and is responsible for oversight, management, preparation and filing of all external and / or management Financial Reporting requirements for the parent company, as well as statutory filing for required subsidiary entities.

This position also will ensure that all reporting is compliant with US GAAP, IFRS and / or SEC equivalent reporting requirements.

Responsibilities include monthly management reporting, oversight and preparation of the quarterly and annual financial reports in 10-Q and 10-K format, as required by its primary debt creditors.

The position is also responsible for directing technical accounting, analysis of and research on accounting for special transactions, including acquisitions and divestitures, new products, and implementation of new accounting and reporting requirements required by the FASB, and a variety of duties that may be assigned within the Controllership group.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

  • Manage financial reporting and consolidation reporting team
  • Oversee and / or prepare the quarterly / annual reports in SEC format. Oversight of quarterly external communications (executive summary presentation decks for audit committee and board meetings)
  • Member of the Audit and Finance Committee, which is part of the Company’s Governance Committee
  • Consideration and address internal controls over external financial reporting requirements
  • Responsible for the development, governance and updating of the global accounting policies, including chairing the Company’s quarterly Global Accounting Policy Council
  • Oversight and responsible for all statutory filing requirements
  • Recommend and implement changes to financial reporting as required
  • Maintain and communicate financial reporting calendars
  • Communicate accounting issues and evolving accounting guidance to management
  • Manage relationship with external auditors, with a focus on the external financial statements and / or accounting issues / developments
  • Ensure alignment with internal departments and external auditors on accounting disclosures within the external financial statements
  • Participate in other accounting, reporting or tax projects as required
  • Collaborate with internal parties on reporting requirements, including, but not limited to FP&A, Risk, Tax, etc.
  • Oversight of accounting research and assists in the updating and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.

Identify new US GAAP / SEC reporting requirements and analyze the impact on the financial reporting process as they relate to the Company

  • Responsible for implementation of financial accounting initiatives and other related projects as assigned
  • Develop US GAAP implementation and monitoring program
  • Address international / domestic division inquiries / transactions for compliance with US GAAP
  • Participate in special projects / technical accounting research
  • Technical accounting and advisory to executive team and business unit controllers
  • Work with key stakeholders to identify and research complex accounting issues; present conclusion grounded in US GAAP both in writing and verbally to internal and external audiences.
  • Track developments in new US GAAP accounting pronouncements / SEC reporting requirements. Develop action plans to implement new requirements and draft communications for presentation to the audit committee.
  • Management of the quarterly key accounting issue process to highlight material financial reporting items to the corporate office and external auditors
  • Oversite drafting of accounting memos, as required by management or external auditors
  • Analyze accounting implications for potential divestitures / acquisitions, including addressing US GAAP / SEC reporting requirements related to transactions, provide guidance to corporate accounting and business unit finance personnel in executing and recording the transactions, address accounting implications in contracts and legal documents.
  • Coordinate obtaining third party valuations as needed on acquisitions and annual assessment for goodwill and intangible impairment.
  • Responsible for stand-alone (carve out) financial statements for certain legal entities and coordinate external audit to satisfy statutory compliance and filing / licensing requirements, as needed.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Company’s accounting policies and ensuring that they are updated to reflect current US GAAP accounting pronouncements.
  • Provide coaching and direction on work issues as required. Set team goals and review achievements on a monthly basis
  • Staff development, training, and coaching, as well as assist in recruitment and retention of all associates
  • Timely communication of deadlines, workloads and scheduling issues to Momentum management
  • Maintain a positive working relationship when addressing problems and providing solutions
  • Respond to questions from other internal departments as well as liaising with select external parties

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree and CPA required, MBA or Master’s in Accounting a plus.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of financial audit and external reporting
  • SEC reporting experience in a publicly traded corporate environment and / or large CPA Firm a plus

SKILLS

  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with IFRS; high level of proficiency in MS Excel; understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify quality solutions
  • Strong organization, planning and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive and high-volume environment
  • Ability to identify key contacts for follow up; excellent ability to communicate project and status updates to team and cross-functionally to ensure understanding
  • Good strategic and problem-solving skills to effectively influence decision making in key negotiations
  • Experience with financial reporting software such as WORKIVA, Merrill Bridge or DFIN tools
  • Must be able to perform with a high level of accuracy under tight time constraints. Must be able to execute assignments and set direction rather than require direction.
  • Must have a solid understanding of the preparation of 10Q / 10K external financial reporting documents.
  • Works closely with key finance personnel to understand business results, transactions to address accounting and disclosure requirements.

Understand the flow of information in the organization (i.e. mechanics of shared service center processes).

  • Works closely with internal and external auditors to support financial statement and internal control audits.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, analyze information and establish resolution plan
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify quality solutions
  • Strong organization; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines
  • Must be able to perform with a high level of accuracy under tight time constraints, execute assignments and set direction rather than require direction.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Comfortable with change and fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with Oracle ERP system, Oracle Fixed Asset subledger and Hyperion Financial Management a plus
