The Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking applications for the endowed Keenan Professorship in Translational Medicine at St.

Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. This is a term, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital Professorship, which is for a 5-year term (renewable once following a review process).

The successful candidate must be an Scientist employed at Unity Health Toronto (Status-Only Scientists are not eligible), and be affiliated with any Faculty at the University of Toronto.

Applicants are expected to lead an innovative, independent, competitive, and externally funded research program of international caliber.

The tentative start date of this appointment is August 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate will be a recognized researcher with an established research program in translational research aimed at bringing results from basic research into direct benefits (treatments / therapies / diagnostics / etc.

for humans. This is often referred to as bench to bedside research. An ideal candidate would have training and experience moving discoveries along this translational pipeline.

The Professorship will lead a world-class program of impactful research and innovation that contributes to the strategic goals and aligns with at least one of the research priorities of Unity Health Toronto : Organ Injury and Repair, Brain Health and Wellness, Critical Care and / or Urban and Community Health.

Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including grants and awards, peer-reviewed publications, community / patient engagement and collaborations locally, nationally and internationally as well as supervision of graduate students and fellows).

The successful applicant must hold a PhD degree or MD degree, as well as a record of excellence in scholarship in this area.

The Professorship will provide approximately $75,000 / year for 5 years, which will be used to offset the salary support of the incumbent.

Any remaining funds may be used to support the academic activities of the incumbent, which may include research operations and education events.
