Specialized Desanders Inc. is recruiting a Full-Time Position : Data Scientist OR Senior Electrical, Computer or Software Engineer
SDI provides Well Desanding and Sand Monitoring as its exclusive services. Sand-producing wells that are not equipped with a multiphase sand separator are subject to erosion, which can quickly present a dangerous situation.
Our control and measurement equipment protects our clients from blowouts, uncontrolled flows, equipment erosion, pollution and plugging of valves.
Our goal is to help our clients have the proper equipment in place to get the job done as safely and efficiently as possible while also reducing Desanding emissions to Net Zero levels.
Job Purpose
The Data Scientist OR Electrical, Computer or Software Engineer will work as a part of the SDI Engineering team assisting with the development and testing of new SDI products and maintenance and improvement of current SDI products.
Experience with and knowledge of general oilfield electronic devices and communications protocols will be an asset while designing new SDI products from the ground up.
Knowledge in signal processing is an asset as well as communications protocols and hazardous area electrical codes of construction for these areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create, develop, test, improve, and maintain the following :
- Oilfield Sensors (pressure, temperature, loadcells, level sensors flow meters, microprocessors etc.)
- PLC programming (Horner)
- Maintain and improve existing programing.
- Create programing for new products.
- Equipment Management Program
- Maintain existing system and expand to meet SDI’s business needs
- Data hosting and management
- Maintain existing 3rd party system and work with 3rd party to integrate improvements (AI integration, etc.)
- Learn and improve SDI’s proprietary Sand Sentry System including the RTU, Temperature, Pressure, and Loadcell instruments and their function in the system.
- Assist the Engineering team with development and shop and field planning and testing of new SDI products.
- Utilize shop and field testing knowledge to assist with programming.
- Review SDI product data to determine with higher accuracy sand rates and volumes.
- Review and develop procedures for SDI Products.
- Ensure that SDI safety standards, procedures and government legislature are maintained for all functions performed in this position.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an Accredited University in one of the following fields :
- Electrical Engineering
- Engineering Physics
- Computer Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Computer Science
- Preferably ten or more years of Oilfield programming experience
- General Oilfield equipment PLCs, pressure, temperature, loadcells, level sensors flow meters etc.

Eligibility Requirements
- This position is based in Calgary, AB and is not eligible for relocation assistance.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide a current driving record.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a passport.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Willingness to travel to client field sites and buildings.
