About the role

We’re looking for a Property Risk Control Specialist to join our Risk Control National Team to support and collaborate closely with the Specialty Lines Underwriting teams.

The Property Risk Control Specialist will conduct site assessment and prepare detailed technical reports on large complex risks.

This is a remote position that requires frequent travel within Ontario and possible travel to the US and / or internationally.

What you’ll do here :

Provides coordination for key regional and national complex accounts.

Contributes to the development and revision of safety standards and regulations through participation in associations and committees.

Author technical papers and journal articles.

Strong capability in conducting research and analysis of risk related trends and risk control issues.

Extensive experience preparing comprehensive risk assessment reports and writing project proposals.

Ensure a high-quality service for our clients and stakeholders through a clear assessment of risk, the development and implementation of best practices and tailored service plans.

Develop technical guidelines / bulletins / operational field manuals and client facing materials

Partner and have joint ownership with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.

Participate in continuous learning and development activities to improve oneself and share the knowledge with members of national risk control teams via assessments or training seminars.

Meet or exceed loss prevention productivity targets and service quality standards.

Other Activities

Climb ladders and stairs and transition to access building roof areas and multi-story buildings.

Walking on surfaces that are uneven, wet, icy, and somewhat unstable.

Travel nationally on short notice.

What you bring to the table :

A minimum of 8 years of Property and Casualty Risk Control experience in large complex risks ideally in the insurance industry and / or equivalent industry such as : large manufacturing, forestry, distribution warehouses)

Certified Safety Professional with a degree in engineering, technical engineering, related sciences, or equivalent experience.

Proficient in the review and analysis of third-party risk control and engineering reports.

Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association standards and relevant fire and building codes.

Specialized skills in trades (electrical, millwright etc) or fire protection and prevention fields are considered assets.

CIP and / or CRM designation is an asset.

Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Strong learning, coping and coaching skills.

Client focused with strong relationship building skills

Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, agility and the ability to work under minimal supervision.

High performer who delivers more than what is expected.

Provides excellent service by understanding customers' needs.

Takes responsibility for own development and is receptive to new challenges.

Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications

Possession of a valid drivers license in good standing
