The Behavioural Support Worker position is responsible for providing direct support to clients / families that meet the criteria for VHA Home HealthCare and partners.
This program is designed to support families in need of respite care for their children / youth with autism spectrum disorder and / or Neurodevelopmental conditions.
In this role you will be dealing with children and youth referred to the program who may have a range of extensive behavioral, developmental, mental health, medical needs and social vulnerabilities by providing respite relief to parents / families directly in the family home.
Key Areas of Accountability
The Behavioural Support Worker will be planning and implementing activities according to the individualized care plan that meets the person’s recreational, and leisure needs while maintaining a safe environment.
They will also be required to participate in collaborative care meetings with the interdisciplinary team, the client (where appropriate) and the client’s caregivers at various intervals.
Behaviour support workers assist our clients with, but not limited to :
- Provides direct care to children / youth up to 18 years of age with Autism Spectrum Disorder and / or Neurodevelopmental conditions in home settings
- Administers and records prescribed medication as per instructions from a medical practitioner and follows the agency's Medication Policies and Procedures.
- Assists clients with personal care and hygiene as necessary. This may include prompting members to complete their personal care or hygiene, encouraging independence, assistance with personal hygiene, feeding, dressing and position change, as well as care, maintenance and use of any equipment required
- Implementing behavioural strategies as per the Behavioural Support Plan (BSP)
- Completes all required documentation and maintains regular up to date case notes in compliance with VHA standards.
- Maintain program data and reports as required as part of the program evaluation and maintaining program quality
- Conducts daily assessment of client needs and consults with family prior to shift to learn about relevant information for care of client
Required Qualifications :
- Degree or diploma in a health-related field, such as Social Work / Social Service Work, Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker.
- CPR, First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention (NVCPI) certification required.
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience will be ideal. NEW GRADS are welcome to apply.
- Experience working directly with children and / or youth with significant needs and challenges affecting social, emotional, behavioral, communicative and / or developmental functioning.
- G License and driving is mandatory.
