Wood is currently accepting applications for Millwright Journeyperson (Industrial Mechanic) Adhoc personnel - Offshore, with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry.

This role will be located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador and will be a casual call-out role. The successful candidate will be willing and eligible to travel Offshore via helicopter or supply vessel.

As a Millwright Journeyperson (Industrial Mechanic), you will install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.

As well as planning and executing millwright activities in accordance with drawings and specifications. Within this role you will work in confined spaces and / or at heights, in outdoor and extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Technical Duties and Essential Functions

Follow all company and site-specific safety rules. Working within the Company’s Safety Program at all times. Maintaining behaviour-based safety essentials and adherence to the Life Saving Rules.

Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.

  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adequately comprehend and communicate using the English Language
  • Listen and communicate effectively and respectfully. Work as a part of a team, under the direction of a foreman and / or general foreman.

Maintain motivation to work safely and productively

  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, understanding and following specifications and drawings. Apply mathematics and geometry to solve problems
  • Plan work and select proper tools, equipment and machinery. Estimating and selecting materials required to complete a job or task.

Planning sequences of methods of work

  • Read and interpret blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation and operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures
  • Dismantle machines using hand tools
  • Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks
  • Construct foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement and steel
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometres and plumb bobs
  • Assemble machines and equipment. Bolt, weld, rivet or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.

Align and test equipment making any necessary adjustments. Must have knowledge of optical and laser alignments

  • Service and repair pneumatic and hydraulic equipment
  • May operate engine lathe to grind, file and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications
  • May use transit and level for equipment setting
  • May be responsible for tack welding if required
  • Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, and repair of tools, machines, and equipment
  • Perform other duties as required

As a successful candidate you will have completed 4 Period Apprenticeship (minimum of 1,560hrs per period, directly related to the trade), followed by Journeyperson Certification OR a valid Journeyperson Certificate issued by another Canadian province or Territory with Interprovincial Red Seal Certification OR provides evidence of a minimum of 6,240 hours of experience directly related to the trade.

All employees are required to demonstrate competence in their trade.

The following Offshore Certificates and Training is required and would be considered an asset :

  • Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
  • Rigging, Slinging, and Banksman
  • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
  • Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness
  • Fall Protection
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Emergency First Aid

Physical Requirements

  • Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test and CAPP Medical as required by the customer
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
  • May be required consistently to work 12-hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditions.

May be required to work overtime on occasion

Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required.

Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others

  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
