The m anager - financial reporting and accounting is responsible for ensuring that Best Buy Canada financial statements are timely, relevant, accurate and in accordance with US GAAP and Best Buy Enterprise policy.

You will be responsible for the management of a small, diverse accounting team, including financial statement close, real estate / leasing, technology and fixed assets.

You will act as a key liaison with Best Buy International and work closely with all Best Buy US controllership teams. You will work cohesively with business partners to ensure seamless rollouts of initiatives and projects, providing business acumen and support on cross-functional projects.

In this role, the successful candidate is needed to be in the greater Vancouver, BC area, where we practice a remote first working model, leveraging in person interactions for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes.

What you'll do :

  • Oversee the monthly general ledger reconciliation process, balance sheet and profit and loss variance analysis, journal entries, general ledger accounts and annual budgets prepared by associates
  • Manage resources to ensure that deadlines are met for month-end closing confirming that accounting for assigned areas of responsibility is in compliance with US GAAP
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and cross-functional teams both internationally and locally applying professional judgment in accounting for new business opportunities and processes impacting areas of responsibility
  • Design and implement SOX and non-SOX processes related to financial statements, month-end reporting to ensure compliance with SOPs and US GAAP.

Coordinate information to Best Buy US external reporting requirements

  • Build a best-in-class controllership team, through an ongoing system of recruitment, development, recognition and performance management
  • Assist the assistant controller with reporting requirements and other tasks. Complete special projects and ad-hoc duties as assigned, including US GAAP accounting research and recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness

What we're looking for :

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a mid-large size organization
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing a team
  • Strong knowledge and application of GAAP
  • An accounting designation (e.g. CPA,CA)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with large and complex data sets and related tools

Base pay range
