The Financial Reporting department and team are responsible for consolidated SFU Financial Reporting both internally and externally. This includes preparing quarterly statements and assist in forecasts. Our team is responsible for fulfilling all annual and quarterly ministry financial reporting requirements. We also maintain, monitor, and upgrade the University's financial reporting information systems. A key part of our team is ensuring all external reporting is in compliance with accounting standards mandated by government.
About the Role
Under management direction and technical leadership provides senior clerical accounting support for an assigned area of accounting services including banking. This includes the preparation of various financial reports, analysis of financial transactional data, investigation and resolution of financial problems, reconciliation of accounts, collection of receivables, coding and approval of expenditures, creation invoices, deposits of receipts, assistance in establishing and operating business arrangements with funding agencies, communication of financial matters to non-financial staff and external parties and training others in assigned area of responsibility. Requires the use of financial applications software and the general application of overall knowledge of financial administration including accounting, banking, taxation statutes, business law and university business policies to support users in operating their departments and programs.
Qualifications
High school graduation and completion of the third year of the CGA or CMA program or equivalent formal accounting program from a recognized institution. 4 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study ad experience is acceptable.
- Ability to use database, spreadsheet and word processing applications (e.g., Excel, Word) at an intermediate level.
- Ability to use and adapt to new computerized financial and banking systems.
- Excellent accounting and record keeping skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
