My client is a niche environmental consulting firm specializing in environmental impact assessments, project permitting and management, regulatory engagement and approvals, indigenous stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance & oversight.
Their primary focus is on the mining and mineral exploration sector, and they lead permitting and regulatory affairs matters for dozens of projects.
They are looking for a Water Modelling Specialist ( Engineer or Scientist).

Location : Remote / WFH / Hybrid : 100% Remote anywhere in Canada
Travel : Less than 5% (no fieldwork)
Salary : $85k - $110k DOE, with full benefits, pension, etc
Responsibilities :
- Participating in a team environment, working closely with and supporting the Water Modelling and Data Sciences Lead and the Water Stewardship Practice Lead;
- Developing site-wide and catchment-scale water balance and water quality models (GoldSim experience required ), for environmental assessments, options and scenario analyses for water management planning, and water treatment and mitigation planning;
- Participating in the surface water components of resource projects, including baseline studies, effects assessments, conceptual water management plans and compliance monitoring reports;
- Preparing high-quality presentations to share and communicate modelling results, including the use of data visualization tools or coding;
- Developing high-quality written technical reports in support of regulatory and permit management assignments;
- Keeping abreast of changes to Canadian federal and provincial impact assessment legislation and practices, as relevant to the water practice;
- Supporting the delivery of multiple projects within scope / budget / schedule expectations and apply high quality standards on project deliverables; and
- Supporting preparation of workplans and proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates.
Requirements :
- A minimum of 4 years of direct experience in water resources projects with a modelling component, preferably in the consulting industry or the natural resource sector;
- Registered Professional (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo, P.Ag., P.Chem) or eligible for a professional designation;
- Bachelors degree in engineering or natural sciences (earth or environmental science) from an accredited institution (Masters degree is an asset);
- Demonstrated experience with industry-standard water balance and mass balance modelling software (i.e., GoldSim ) for mining projects;
- Demonstrated experience with modelling environmental processes that relate to the fate and transport of constituents of concern (e.
- g., climate, hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, water quality);
- Data analysis and statistical techniques while working with large environmental datasets, and visualization (e.g., PowerBI);
- Programming knowledge (e.g., R, Python, C, VBA), including the development of code for water modelling applications or software;
- Excellent analytical skills in report writing and spreadsheet management to ensure reports are accurate and complete;
- Use of AI-based tools to improve efficiency in modelling and data analysis;
- Adaptable and possess an ability to manage time and resources effectively;
- Strong interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills;
- An understanding of mining and mining-related environmental effects; Willingness to occasionally travel and work in the field on projects as needed; and
- A valid driver’s license.
Desirable Qualifications (considered a strong asset)
- Experience with other water resources (HEC-HMS, Raven, HEC-RAS), water quality, or geochemical modelling platforms PHREEQC)
- Experience with GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS, Global Mapper, QGIS)
- Experience with 2D and 3D data visualization tools
- Direct experience working in the mining / resource sector;
- Direct experience working on water quality management for natural resource projects, such as mining, oil and gas, and / or renewable energy;
- Experience communicating the results of water-related technical studies (e.g., with stakeholder technical review teams and First Nations, provincial / territorial regulators, and the scientific / engineering community);
- Basic knowledge of Canadian or provincial / territorial environmental impact assessment legislation and regulations (i.
e., Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012) related to water quality; and
Project management experience.
