Sustaining Engineering & Root Cause Analysis: Lead technical assessments for released products, manage component obsolescence, and execute supplier modifications. Direct root-cause analyses, containment plans, permanent corrective actions, and post-implementation effectiveness checks for field or factory issues.
Value Engineering (VAVE): Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities across components, materials, processes, tooling, and architectures without compromising quality, aesthetic standards, performance, or compliance. Validate savings with Finance.
Design Verification & Compliance: Perform tolerance analyses, DFM/DFA reviews, prototyping, and testing across mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, and control systems. Work with compliance owners and certification bodies (e.g., UL, CSA, ETL) prior to implementing design changes.
Product Data Management (ECO/ECN): Maintain CAD models, technical drawings, specifications, ERP BOMs, assembly instructions, and incoming quality criteria. Enforce robust change control via ECO/ECN procedures, ensuring revision traceability and inventory transition management.
Supplier Collaboration & Custom Feasibility: Work closely with vendors on component sourcing, tool design, and supplier quality issues. Assess feasibility, cost, lead time, and compliance impact for custom client modifications, releasing approved configurations to production.
Technical Escalations & Returns (RMA Support): Provide expert technical analysis for complex field returns and customer escalations. Conduct failure analysis on returned products to identify trends and inform warranty determinations.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).
Professional Licensure: Appropriate APEGA registration (P.Eng. or eligible) required for independent engineering practice.
Experience: Typically 5–10+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing or sustaining engineering within a product-development environment.
Industry Background: Strong preference for experience in commercial/architectural lighting, electrical fixtures, or similar electromechanical manufacturing environments.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with 3D CAD software, tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM/DFA principles.
Demonstrated experience managing ERP systems, BOM structures, and ECO/ECN processes.
Solid background in thermal, mechanical, optical, and electrical integration.
